Henry joined UKSBS as Software Developer Apprentice in 2021 through our partnership with New College Swindon. On finishing his apprenticeship, he was promoted to Technical Analyst.
The value of quality apprenticeship
I changed my plan to study for a degree in mechanical engineering as I built up my interest in software development during lockdown. I realised I could explore a career in a field I was passionate about and get paid while I studied towards a Level 4 Diploma in Software Development.
I’ve had the opportunity to explore and build a wide variety of digital skills developing new products for UKSBS - Chatbots, SharePoint sites, and digital forms – that really make a difference to the business and our customers. I’ve accelerated my software development skills, but also learnt how to implement the new products and gained a better understanding of the business with the support of my colleagues.
UKSBS really supports apprentices to showcase their talent
From the moment I started I knew I’d made the right choice. I’ve felt supported every step of the way and valued for the contributions that I make to projects – not only by my team and managers, but everyone I’ve met and worked with. Digital & Information is a hugely interesting environment and I’m surrounded by colleagues that challenge and feed my desire to learn and share their knowledge and skills readily. Along with the freedom to explore different digital projects and get practical experience, my team ensured I had the space and support to study for and achieve my Level 4 Diploma. It’s been an amazing start to my digital career and opened the door for my next role.
