Overview

Providing Data as a Service is a key transformation initiative designed to elevate our service delivery by offering our clients a powerful performance tool.

Our data experts joined forces with colleagues from the integrated Corporate Services in Department for Energy Security and Net Zero to develop a new approach to using our data to create meaningful performance data. The aim was to explore data transformation and remove unnecessary processes and resources needed to bring together the data sets.

Our approach

Our collaboration focused on analysing raw data to create datasets and views that were automatically refreshed. This view was essential to capture key data sets.

UKSBS has access to a large amount of data, securely stored, cleansed, and analysed. Our automated approach enabled us to quickly deliver daily refreshed data and linked commentary fields, eliminating the need for basic processing of raw data.

Benefits

Our first successful deliverable is a Power BI report hosted by UKSBS, providing selected users with visibility into roles and responsibilities. With daily data refreshes, customers can efficiently manage Oracle access levels, eliminating the need for emails and saving significant time through on-demand data availability.

We created a draft report with monthly data securely hosted in the cloud, reducing manual processes to instant access. This includes more granular payroll data, saving an estimated one day per month in processing time.

This initiative significantly improves data offerings for UKSBS system users. It enhances processing speed, report accuracy, data security, and the volume of accessible information.  Although the data and views were initially created for a specific customer, they are reusable for other clients.

Testimonials

“While this was designed to be a data transformation exercise to improve information accessibility for the MI Team, having the access to much more data has already meant we can answer detailed questions in a way we never thought possible.
One of the ultimate benefits will be reducing/minimising the amount of data that we store outside the system which we’re forced to do now.
We are confident that having the data in this way will elevate the service we are able to provide our customers.”
