The awards highlights 16 areas of excellence, showcasing the great work undertaken across the public sector to develop and sustain smarter working practices.
As a business service provider operating on Enterprise Resource Platforms (ERPs) for over 25,000 clients, becoming a more agile organisation is critical to our success. Our Smarter Working Live Award entry was from the Partnership and Change team focusing on our approach to Agile adoption and how the introduction of agile methodology has been instrumental in changing the way we look at our business, behaviours, and outcomes.
Our approach is to learn, adopt, embed. The strategy was focused on upskilling a small group of employees based on their needs and needs of our customers and the organisation to deploy agile practices and make a difference to our service delivery.
This programme of activity has developed as we have moved through our business planning cycle since 2022, and this smarter working approach is now an integral element of our overall business transformation and we have achieved the following outcomes in the past year.
- Colleague engagement has increased by 15% in the new agile teams
- Quarterly programme boards established with all operational change activity mapped
- Matching capacity to planning with over 90% predictability
- Cross team collaboration and dependency mapping
- All work prioritised so decision making around business continuity and routine issues has become much easier.
- Programme level risks mapped and roamed by teams
- Increased confidence in planned delivery taken from every member of that team
- Better usage of tooling to track tasks, dependencies, risks, and statuses
- Opportunities for improvement are managed daily, bi-weekly, and quarterly

To achieve this, we are undergoing a major transformation programme, where transformation underpins our whole organisation as we embrace new technologies, efficient processes, and agile ways of working.
The winners will be announced at a glitzy ceremony on Thursday 21 November at The Vox Conference Centre, Birmingham.
